Joseph Lorenzo Wise is channeling his Latin roots. On June 1, 2017 Joseph Lorenzo releases his new single, the Spanish Ballad Romantica "ERES TU". The song made famous by Mocedades is a power ballad and anthem fantastica. Wise started singing in Spanish in "Rhythm Man...Channeling the Greats" where he sang a tribute to Natalie Cole en Español. "I just fell in love with the Spanish songs and Natalie sang them so beautifully", he says.

This year 2017, Wise is the recipient of a grant from the Grammy Foundation and is grateful to the Recording Academy and MusicCares. "I was really struggling in January 2017, I needed a major and expensive dental procedure, it was urgent. A colleague told me about MusicCares and thought with my discography that I might be eligible for a grant. Sure enough, my discography of 1 album, seven singles, original cast album "ON THE 20th CENTURY" and numerous music videos qualified and, Grammy.com came through with a generous grant".

Wise who appears in" "The Grand Romantic" as a vocal coach to Nate Ruess, the frontman for the band "Fun", is also one of the original Four Porters from "On the 20th Century". In 2016 he released his album "SONGBOOK" which contains ten live performances with trio. He also performed eight live-streamed concerts on Concert Window in the Fall of 2016. "It was an amazing experience, broadcasting live from Hollywood, Palm Springs and Las Vegas. It's a lot of hard work, rehearsing, recording, camera setup, set decoration, wardrobe, sound checks, and then you come out and hit your mark, and it's live on the internet," he explains.

Joseph Lorenzo tells us the Las Vegas story, "I was getting ready for my final Las Vegas show "2016 A Look Back" on Concert Window when I realized I didn't bring along my Natalie collage for the tribute, so I went down to the business center at the Cosmopolitan and printed out the picture of me and Natalie at the Hollywood Bowl. I sent it to print and when I picked it up off the printer my heart sank. The picture was in black and white and even more stunning, like something from a classic old movie. While I was performing, I looked up at the picture and I felt a warmness surround me. It was like Natalie was there cheering me on. Natalie loved Vegas and with the Fountains of Bellagio and Caesar's Palace shimmering in the background, the tribute was mystical.

"I heard "Eres Tu" on the radio on my 2015 trip to Vegas where I recorded "Christmas Again", the music video, at the Bellagio. I was at elevation 4000 feet and descending down the mountain, it had been a cloudy day but suddenly the sun broke through the clouds and "Eres Tu" came on the radio. I was blown away by the song and I remember it was a hit back in 1978, my heyday, on Broadway. "I'm gonna record that song one day, I remember thinking".

Wise who turns 60 this year plans to continue recording Spanish language songs and eventually release a CD of Latin music. Joseph Lorenzo says "Eres Tu" is a song that resonates today just like it did back in 1978. "It's just one of those songs that gives me goosebumps, every time, and the message translated "It's You" is the right sentiment for these turbulent times, to remember that each and everyone is a spiritual and unique gift from the creator. And though the lyrics are in Spanish, the music is full of gospel chords and pop riffs, and I really feel it is a gospel song underneath".

"Eres Tu" reached number 3 on the billboard charts the highest for a Latin record sung entirely in Spanish. Gregarious Wise goes on, "It's funny too, when I went to New York in 1975, young Latin men would approach me speaking Spanish. When I said I didn't speak Spanish, they were shocked and annoyed. It was at the Winter Garden Theater where a guy ripped into me. "You do speak Spanish, he said to me, you just don' wan' to speakee to me." So maybe there is more to this Latin thing. I'm planning to do a concert later in the year, mostly in Spanish. I've always loved languages ever since I played the Emcee in Cabaret, and I had a wonderful vocal coach at the Carnegie Hall Studios, the late Mary Singer, who encouraged me to sing in different languages".
