John Cullum Reflects On CAMELOT & Its Enduring Success

Multi-award-winning stage and screen notable John Cullum discusses his Broadway debut in the legendary Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe Arthurian musical CAMELOT as part of a new video interview.

"CAMELOT was very exciting because it was the very first play that Lerner & Loewe had done after MY FAIR LADY," Cullum remembers.

"They had tremendous sets and costumes - gorgeous - and a wonderful company; a huge company of the best people, because everybody wanted to be in it," Cullum shares of the talented corps.

"The chorus worked in a different theater, even, than the principals. And, I remember the day that we all walked from the theater where we were rehearsing all the big numbers - Richard [Burton] and Julie [Andrews] were onstage and they wanted us to see them do this number, 'What Do The Simple Folk Do?'."

Cullum adds of the immediate reaction to the performance, "We watched that number and everybody went wild - we thought, 'We've got a hit with these people, we can't fail!'"

"It was a gorgeous musical that worked on many levels and the proof of that is that it is done today," Cullum concludes.
