Huey Lewis & the News Coming to Wolf Trap, 8/13

On Tuesday, August 13th legendary band Huey Lewis and the News will be playing at Wolf Trap's outdoor Filene Center to commemorate their album Sports - one of the most celebrated and influential albums in pop/rock history - through their Sports 30th Anniversary World Tour. Peaking at No. 1 on the Billboard Charts, selling more than 10 million copies worldwide, and earning both a Grammy Award and a Diamond Award in Canada, Sports spans the generations. More than half of the album's songs ("The Heart of Rock & Roll," "Heart & Soul," "I Want a New Drug," "Walking on a Thin Line," "If This Is It") were huge hit singles that audiences love even today.

A few months ago, the band released a two-disc 30th Anniversary Edition album of Sports.

This chart-topping pop/rock outfit takes you back to "The Heart of Rock 'n' Roll" with a powerful horn section and hook-laden hits backed by "The Power of Love." Huey Lewis & The News are: Huey Lewis (vocals and harmonic), Johnny Colla (saxophone, guitar, and vocals), Bill Gibson (drums, percussion, and vocals), Sean Hopper (keyboards and vocals), Stef Burns (guitars and vocals), John Pierce (bass), Marvin McFadden (trumpet), Rob Sudduth (tenor saxophone), and Johnnie Bamont (baritone saxophone).

Opening for Huey Lewis and the News is Country/rock artist and Arlington, VA native Scott Kurt, who has been lauded for his "wide-open yet lonesome sound, reminiscent of Wilco and Paul Westerberg" and "forceful, poignant vocals" (The Daily Freeman). Together with his group Memphis 59, he has opened for artists like The Randy Rogers Band. His most recent release is Down This Road (2012).
