Gary Louris, a pioneer of Minnesota's rock scene, is bringing his personal brand of alt-pop Americana to Lyric Arts this winter.

A founding member of the hugely influential group 'The Jayhawks,' and having performed in various groups since 1985, Gary Louris brings with him a soft rock sound that only experience and true musical genius can achieve. Using instrumentals straight from Simon and Garfunkel's heyday, and a vocal delivery reminiscent of the Beatles' mellower pop tracks, his concerts can both sport a modern pop-rock sound and bring the 70's back in breathtaking fashion. In spite of his immense fan base, Louris rarely tours these days. However, he can sometimes be found playing festivals like SXSW, and he is sure to shine in Lyric Arts' intimate venue!

Louris has lent his musical talents to many groups over the years, and he has worked with everything from synthesizers to pedal steel guitars to modern electronic recording techniques, but his folk guitar and unmistakable vocals have always provided a constant feel in his music. He says, "It wasn't my intention to recapture the '70s or anything, that's just what comes out when I sing."

Louris is supported by opener Kevin Bowe, leader of Minneapolis band The Okemah Prophets. Bowe has worked with artists such as Paul Westerberg, Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Etta James, and has a long history as a guitarist/writer/producer.

Lyric Arts' "Music in the 'Burbs" series is designed to provide music fans with an up-close and personal concert experience. The 228 seat bowl-style Main Street Stage serves as a perfect venue for an intimate musical experience for both audiences and performers alike.

The show will begin at Lyric Arts Main Street Stage on November 20th, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. Ticket prices range from $21-$25 and can be purchased by calling the Lyric Arts box office at 763-422-1838 or by visiting www.lyricarts.org.
