Los Angeles-based band, Dawes, rocks The Eccles Center with "straight-ahead sound and vivid songwriting" (The Wall Street Journal) on Saturday, November 30. Touring in the wake of its Billboard chart-topping new album "Stories Don't End," Dawes rides the folk-roots-rock revival wave with refreshing lyrics and style. Concert starts at 7:30 p.m.

"Your new favorite band," according to a recent American Songwriter article, Dawes includes: Taylor Goldsmith (lead vocals, guitar), Wylie Gelber (bass), Tay Strathairn (keyboard) and Griffin Goldsmith (drums, vocals). The four 20- and 30-something, band-mates have played at Occupy Wall Street protests, appeared as themselves on the primetime show "Parenthood," performed alongside the likes of Jackson Browne, Bob Dylan and John Fogerty and recently released a third - and highly acclaimed - new album.

Most critics intimate that this band's sound smacks of vintage '70s rock. As Rolling Stone puts it, "Dawes are natural experts at vintage allure: the precise twang and breezy introspection of Seventies California rock." Yet, original lyrics give plenty of present-day relevance to throwback hits, such as "From a Window Seat" and "Just Beneath the Surface."

Dawes' music speaks to millennials; it also resonates across generations. As the Los Angeles Times writes, "A proudly old-fashioned sensibility permeates the band's music, which eschews the hard sparkle and the compact economy of modern pop..."

Park City Institute presents Dawes on Saturday, November 30. The concert takes place at The George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Center for the Performing Arts (1750 Kearns Blvd., Park City). Show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $20 to $69 with a 20-percent discount for seniors; ½ price tickets for children ages 16 and under; $5 seats available in the Copper Section for Summit County students (K-12). Tickets and information are available at The Eccles Center box office, 435-655-3114 or www.ecclescenter.org.
