Elvis Perkins Shares Provocative New Single THERE GO THE NIGHTMERICANS

Elvis Perkins has announced the release of a new single, "There Go The Nightmericans," performed with Sam Cohen (who also produced) and Josh Kaufman. The track is backed by "Clockwork," originally released by Sam Cohen as part of Dave Eggers' "30 Songs, 30 Days" playlist of songs written and recorded by musicians for a Trump-free America during the month leading up to the 2016 presidential election. "There Go The Nightmericans" b/w "Clockwork" is available now at Perkins; newly launched Bandcamp now. Listen to the song here!

All proceeds from sales of "There Go The Nightmericans" b/w "Clockwork" will go to benefit Emergent Fund, powered by RPM. Established in November 2016, the Emergent Fund continues to protect and empower American communities most jeopardized by the Trump Administration. RPM is a nonprofit agency supporting artists in activism. For information on the Emergent Fund and the organizations they support, please visit www.emergentfund.net/grantees.

"The question of what to do about the walking nightmares currently in the high seats of American power," says Perkins, "has for a year now borne heavy on my mind, too (surprise). Desperate times calling for all manner of desperate measure, here we have a Hail Mary'd wakeup call to their presumably only shallowly-buried better selves, pitched from the recess of a song they very well may never hear. At its center is a guided meditation for those who wish to participate in expelling what nightmares may be driving Mr. Trump his enablers. "

Cohen describes "Clockwork" as "something of a eulogy for American dignity,". Both tracks are accompanied by new lyric videos. The visual is available to stream here.

Elvis Perkins has released three full-length collections of songs, two under his own name ('AshWednesday' '07 XL Recordings & 'I Aubade', '15 MIR) and one under the band name Elvis Perkins in Dearland ('09 XL Recordings). The band with whom he has toured extensively also released the six-track 'Doomsday EP' in 2009 (XL). In the past two years Elvis has made two film scores: "I am the Pretty Thing the Lives in the House" (Netflix, October '16) and "The Blackcoat's Daughter" (A24 '17). A soundtrack album for the latter was released via Death Waltz Recording Co. in March 2017. Elvis is currently in a Beth Morrison Productions' theater piece, HOME, the brainchild of his old friend, Geoff Sobelle (Object Lesson), for which he provides live original music. HOME world premiered at Philly Fringe Arts in September is bound for BAM's Next Wave festival in December 2017 and the Edinburgh Festival in the summer of 2018.

Sam Cohen, the multi-talented Brooklyn-based musician and producer, released his first solo album, Cool It, in 2016. As the man behind the psychedelic-rock band Yellowbirds, Cohen released The Color in 2011 and Songs from the Vanished Frontier in 2013. Most recently, he has produced Kevin Morby's album, Singing Saw, Benjamin Booker's sophomore release, Witness, Curtis Harding's, Face Your Fear, and Resistance Radio: The Man in the High Castle Album (co-produced with Danger Mouse), a companion piece to the eponymous Amazon series, which features Beck, Norah Jones, Karen O, Sharon Van Etten, Michael Kiwanuka and many more.

Perkins first performed "There Go The Nightmericans" at this summer's Newport Folk Festival alongside the Alone & Together supergroup comprised of Sam Cohen, Josh Kaufman, Eric D. Johnson, and Joe Russo. The collaboration led to the track's recording & Perkins will be joining Alone & Together for a series of live dates beginning next week.
