Billboard.com reports today that Cher's newest studio album 'Closer to the Truth' is now her highest debut (solo or otherwise) ever on the Billboard 200. The album, from Warner Bros. Records, has sold 63,000 copies in its first week, hitting the No. 3 spot on the chart, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Prior to this achievement, the highest spot the diva's solo albums had reached was No. 4, with both 1999's "Believe" and 2003's "The Very Best of Cher". As part of the legendary duo Sonny & Cher, the superstar hit No. 2 with 1965's "Look at Us", which featured the No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 single "I Got You Babe".
"Closer to the Truth" was led by the single "Woman's World," which became Cher's eighth No. 1 on the Dance Club/Play Songs chart this past August.
Cher counts Oscar, Emmy, Grammy and severAl Golden Globes amongst her long list of awards. Her multi-platinum "Believe" album which sold 20 million copies contained the single "Believe" selling 11 million copies. Cher is the only artist to have a No. 1 single on the Billboard pop charts in each of the last six decades.
Most recently Cher co-hosted the TNT "Women in Film" Series with Robert Osborne and produced the Lifetime show "Dear Mom, Love Cher" which aired last month and is expected to be released on DVD later this year.
