"When I Was Your Man" - the latest hit single from Atlantic recording artist Bruno Mars' new album, "UNORTHODOX JUKEBOX" - has ascended to the #1 spot on Billboard's "Hot 100." The single's chart-topping success comes hot on the heels of the album's sensational first single, "Locked Out Of Heaven," which held the #1 position for six consecutive weeks earlier this year. "When I Was Your Man," which marks Mars' fifth single to reach No. 1 on the "Hot 100," has exceeded sales of 2 million stateside and 1 million overseas.
Mars will celebrate by opening the upcoming 2013 Billboard Music Awards with an eagerly anticipated live performance. The awards are set to air live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, May 19th (8:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on The ABC Television Network (check local listings). In addition, Bruno is among the nominees for the event's Milestone Award. Fans are invited to vote for the Chevrolet-sponsored honors now at www.billboard.com/milestone/vote.
Furthermore, "When I Was Your Man" represents Mars' sixth #1 single on Billboard's "Mainstream Top 40" radio airplay chart, pushing him above Justin Timberlake and Nelly as the solo male artist with the most chart-toppers in the tally's 20-year history. According to Billboard magazine, Mars has racked his first five Hot 100 No. 1s faster than any male since Elvis Presley. As if that weren't enough, "When I Was Your Man" stands as Mars' 11th song to pass 1 million downloads - all since his arrival on the scene just three short years ago. The GRAMMY-winning superstar can now lay claim to a truly remarkable statistic, marking over 100 million singles sold worldwide in his role as both solo artist and as chart-topping writer/producer/featured performer.
Currently starring on the April cover of GQ, Mars offered a rendition of "When I Was Your Man" on a recent installment of the nationally syndicated Ellen DeGeneres Show. The performance can be viewed now at www.brunomars.com/news/when-i-was-your-man-performance-ellen-2354106.
"UNORTHODOX JUKEBOX" has quickly proven a worldwide phenomenon. The album - which recently hit the top spot on the Billboard 200, marking the GRAMMY-winning Mars' first #1 album in the U.S. - has been certified platinum by the RIAA, commemorating domestic sales in excess of 1 million. "UNORTHODOX JUKEBOX" has also received platinum certifications in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, France, Ireland and the United Kingdom, where it exploded to the top spot on the album charts upon its initial release, making history as Britain's fastest selling solo album of 2012. The extraordinary accomplishment of "UNORTHODOX JUKEBOX" follows the equivalent popularity of Mars' now classic 2010 debut, "DOO-WOPS & HOOLIGANS," which also entered the charts at #1 and soon proved the UK's third best-selling album of 2011.
Mars is currently poised to embark on his epic "Moonshine Jungle Tour," kicking off Saturday, June 22nd at Washington, DC's Verizon Center before traveling the planet though November. Several dates of the worldwide arena tour in both North America and Europe sold out within minutes of their announcement, including shows in New York, London, Paris, Dublin and Madrid, as well as two night stands at Los Angeles' Staples Center and Denver's Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
