Brooklyn-bred Big Crown Records kicks off a busy 2017 with its first-ever Pop Up Record Shop on Sunday, February 12. Vinyl enthusiasts and music addicts can gather at The Great Giorigiana for a day's worth of crate digging, live DJ sets by some of NY's finest, Conjure Kitchen cuisine and a chance to hang with other local audiophiles and members of the Big Crown family.

Big Crown is always creating ways to further NYC culture. This time, the boutique label does so by bringing together passionate, talented and active members of the community who are aligned by one thing, if nothing else: music. The Sunday sale will feature records by some of the finest used dealers, as well as some of the most highly regarded local shops. Big Crown will also have a table showcasing its own titles at hand-to-hand prices in celebration of the event

Big Crown Records opened its doors to the public only eight months ago and has already taken the independent label world by storm releasing a slew of titles, all with a vinyl version, and at a rate and caliber impossible to ignore. The label was founded by producer / multi-instrumentalist Leon Michels and DJ Danny Akalepse, two music aficionados known for launching and/or expanding the careers of groups including Lee Fields & The Expresions, Lady Wray, El Michels Affair, Paul & The Tall Trees, The Shacks and many more. It's safe to say the two have as much love for collecting records as they do for putting them out.
"I'm still going after records everyday," shares Akalepse, who's been DJing for 25 years. "This is for the record heads and the music fans, and I'm hoping to find some stuff."

He adds, "All the people that we invited to come and be a part of this, whether they are dealers, DJs, or the folks who come down to kick it, are all people we've know for a bunch of years. It's nice to keep this culture alive and well here at home in NYC. I like that very much."
