This free event launches the festival with a bang, as music, dance a lively competition as Samba dancers from across the UK perform to a panel of judges and hosted by Ellie Phillips.

And the annual festival has a new home for 2017 for the main festival day on Saturday 15th July - Liverpool's world-famous Pier Head.

The Pier Head Village will deliver a programme of world class entertainment, locally-sourced street food and artisan markets, high flying thrill rides and activity based family entertainment, offering a complete day to night summer experience designed to entertain all ages.

One of the highlights of the festival will be the Brazilica main stage programme, which will transform the Pier Head in to a sizzling epicentre of colourful carnival action.

The spectacular night-time Carnival Parade which is led by the winner of the Carnival Queen competition and features Samba bands from across the UK and overseas will remain the main festival highlight on the Saturday night. Maeve Morris, Artistic Director of Liverpool Carnival Company, said: "We're delighted to be able to bring Brazilica to the Liverpool waterfront for 2017. It's where the city has always looked out towards the rest of the world - and particularly the Americas.

"This year's event is packed with music and colour, from our annual Carnival Parade to the amazing line-up of bands and performers we have for the festival stage at the Pier Head. We can't wait to celebrate our 10th anniversary with the people of Liverpool - we know how the city likes a great party and that's what we can promise it will get."
