Alexander Zonjic and Friends Set for McCree Theatre's Apollo Night Benefit Concert, 9/15
World renowned jazz flutist and smooth jazz star, Alexander Zonjic and Friends, will play Apollo Night, a benefit concert to raise funds for the "New" McCree Theatre in Flint. The special musical event will help efforts to maintain the unique venue at 5005 Cloverlawn. The facility now houses the Theatre and many other community youth programs.
Zonjic and "Friends" will perform at 3:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m., Sunday, September 15, 2013 in the "new" McCree Theatre auditorium. The intimate setting provides the perfect backdrop for a smooth jazz evening to warm up the night.
Zonjic is a jazz favorite across the country for his cool jazz grooves and exciting shows. He has shared the stage with such greats as Earl Klugh, Kirk Whalum and Angela Bofill. He currently hosts a syndicated radio show called Alexander Zonjic from A to Z that airs on Canadian radio and WVMV's HD2 Channel. He won the 2010 Album of the Year and Broadcaster of the Year at the Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards. In addition to performing in one hundred concerts a year, he is the artistic director for numerous music festivals.
The McCree Theatre is the only Afrocentric Performing Arts Theatre in the mid-Michigan area and the only one that has an identifiable season of productions in the state. The center was originally founded in 1970.
Donation for the concert is $25.00 per person. A $50 ($90 per couple) donation is requested for a reception with Zonjic and reserved center-aisle seating.
