The Most Serene Republic maintained an extraordinary level of civil peace throughout its long reign as the dominant power of the Mediterranean. With an economy fueled by diversity, an Arabic School, an Armenian Church, and Dalmatian colonies provided just a few of the non-western voices of the Venetian seicento. Works of Strozzi, Rigatti, and Monteverdi performed in alternation with music of the Turkish, Armenian, and Dalmatian communities offer a window onto the Venetian mosaic.
