According to Deadline, stage and screen star Tom Hiddleston has signed on to play country legend Hank Williams in the upcoming biopic I SAW THE LIGHT.

Written and directed by Marc Abraham, the film will "tell the story of Williams's meteoric rise to fame, and the price that fame took on his personal life. He died at age 29 of heart failure."

Hiddleston will sing in the film, slated to begin production this October in Louisiana.

Hiddleston began his career in theatre. His stage credits include Donmar Warehouse's production of Othello, directed by Michael Grandage and acted alongside Ewan McGregor. Hiddleston has also appeared in the West End revival of Ivanov, The Children's Monologues at The Old Vic, Coriolanus and The Kingdom of Earth at Criterion Theatre.

Hiddleston's film appearances include Thor, War Horse, The Avengers, The Deep Blue Sea, Midnight in Paris and the upcoming Thor: The Dark World. TV credits include Wallander, Suburban Shootout, Return to Cranford and more.
