Steve Carell Steps In for Zach Galifianakis in FREEHELD

Deadline reports that Steve Carell is taking over Zach Galifianakis's role in the upcoming drama FREEHELD. Galifianakis departs the project due to schedule conflicts.

FREEHELD also stars Julianne Moore and Ellen Page and will be directed by Peter Sollett from a script by Ron Nyswaner.

The film is based on the 2007 documentary, and tells the "true story of the late Laurel Hester (Moore), a New Jersey police detective whose world was shattered when she became terminally ill and government officials prevented her from assigning her pension benefits to her domestic partner, Stacie Andree (Page)."

Carell will play 'Steven Goldstein', described as "a passionate advocate for Garden State Equality."

Carell's upcoming big screen projects include Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day and The Minions. He recently appeared in Foxcatcher, Despicable Me 2, Seeking a Friend at the End of the World, Crazy, Stupid, Love. and more. Carell is best known for his long-running role as 'Michael Scott' in NBC's The Office, for which he won a Golden Globe Award.
