According to The Hollywood Reporter, it was announced this morning that Ricky Gervais will star in a feature film titled LIFE ON THE ROAD, based on his character David Brent from the UK's original version of 'The Office'. Brent was the inspiration for Steve Carell's take on office manager Michael Scott in the U.S. version of the comedy.

Currently, it has not been announced whether the film, from BBC Films, will get a theatrical release or instead will be broadcast on TV. Produciton is set to begin in the U.K. next year.

According to the report, Life on the Road will pick up on the life of Brent ten years after The Office closed its doors in December of 2013. "We find out what Brent is doing now and what's happened in the last 15 years since his redundancy from his beloved Wernham Hogg," BBC Films said in a press release. "He's a sales rep now, selling cleaning products up and down the country, but has never really give up on his dream of being a rock star."

The statement revealed that Brent will attempt to organize a self-funded musical tour. "He thinks it'll be like [Martin] Scorsese filming The Rolling Stones, but it turns out to be a 'where are they now' documentary. He has to take a few weeks off work and cash in a couple of pensions, because the session musicians in the band are costing him more than he's getting in ticket sales. Tragic."
