New Screenings Set for NewFilmmakers NY Independence Day Series on Today

On July 2nd, NewFilmmakers NY screens its 2014 Spring Series with new programming. The NewFilmmakers NY Series screens at Anthology Film Archives on the Lower East Side at 32 Second Avenue & 2nd Street. Tickets for the Spring Screening Series 2014 are only $6 and are good for the whole night's screenings and receptions. They are available at the Anthology Box Office the night of screening.

Starring Vadim Jean, this 2010 documentary is about the Angola 3, three prisoners who while serving their time in Angola State Prison (the United States' most notorious penal colony) joined the BPP and participated in non- violent resistance campaigns protesting the terrible conditions, prisoner abuse and sexual slavery rampant inside the prison. As a result they were falsely accused of murder while in prison and have all been, with the exception of Robert King who was released in 2001, serving the last 38 years in solitary confinement.

Mirai's efforts to win Rolly's freedom uncover painful and dangerous secrets from her parents' past through which she learns the true meaning of family and love.
