According to The Hollywood Reporter, Julia Roberts has signed on to produce and star in an upcoming film based on the real-life story of 'Batkid', currently featured in the documentary BATKID BEGINS: THE WISH HEARD AROUND THE WORLD, which debuts this weekend.

The documentary's director Dana Nachman said in a statement: "It's thrilling to me that Ms. Roberts and her team watched our film and were so moved by it that they want to dedicate their time and creative capital to make sure the widest audience possible will know and love Miles' story and the spirit of this intimate special event that went global, as much as we do."

The new movie will tell the true story of Miles Scott, a 5-year-old with leukemia who wished for the chance to be Batkid and got way more than he ever dreamed. The city of San Francisco -- plus Barack Obama -- joined together to fulfill Miles's Make-a-Wish Foundation request on November 15, 2013.

Roberts' other upcoming projects include The Secret in Their Eyes and Money Monster. She recently appeared on the big screen in August: Osage County and in the TV movie The Normal Heart. Among Roberts' producing credits are Jesus Henry Christ, Extraordinary Moms, three American Girl films and Stepmom.
