Joseph Gordon-Levitt Will Play Edward Snowden in New Oliver Stone Film

Reuters has confirmed last month's reports that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will take on the role of Edward Snowden in Oliver Stone's upcoming film THE SNOWDEN FILES: THE INSIDE STORY OF THE WORLD'S MOST WANTED MAN.

Although Stone procured the rights for the story, along with producing partner Moritz Borman from Guardian journalist Luke Harding, THE SNOWDEN FILES is actually based on the novel, Time of the Octopus. The book, by Anatoly Kucherena, Snowden's Russian lawyer, mostly chronicles Snowden's stint seeking asylum from the United States in Russia.

Production on the film will begin in January.

Gordon-Levitt's Gordon-Levitt's upcoming projects include The Walk and an untitled Christmas comedy. His recent film credits include Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, The Wind Rises, Don Jon, Lincoln, Looper, The Dark Knight Rises, 50/50, Inception and more. He is also in talks to star in an upcoming film adaptation of the Broadway musical GUYS AND DOLLS.
