JACKASS: BAD GRANDPA Canes Competition with Projected $25M Weekend; THE COUNSELOR Grasping for $10M
The Counselor, box office
MTV Films' JACKASS PRESENTS: BAD GRANDPA is scootering toward No. 1 with an estimated $25 million at the weekend box office, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
GRAVITY, which has been sitting in the top slot since its opening at the beginning of October, is aiming for $20 million by Sunday.
Johnny Knoxville stars in BAD GRANDPA as 'Irving Zisman', an 86-year-old prankster, with Jackson Nicoll as his 8-year-old grandson Billy. The pair travel across the country punking people in the signature "Jackass" style. The film is directed by Jeff Tremaine and cost just $15 million to produce.
Meanwhile, THE COUNSELOR, featuring a screenplay from author Cormac McCarthy (No Country for Old Men) and directed by Ridley Scott, is stretching for just $10 million in its opening weekend. The movie stars Michael Fassbender, Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Javier Bardem and Brad Pitt.
In THE COUNSELOR, McCarthy -- making his screenwriting debut -- and Scott interweave the author's characteristic wit and dark humor with a nightmarish scenario, in which a respected lawyer's one-time dalliance with an illegal business deal spirals out of control.
