ComingSoon.net reports that James Mangold's sequel to 2013's THE WOLVERINE will officially be hitting theaters on March 3, 2017, with Hugh Jackman returning as the lead. 20th Century Fox has also tapped David James Kelly (Straw Man) to pen the screenplay.

The most recent version of the superhero action film opened on July 26th, 2013, to strong a strong box office, quickly becoming the second highest grossing X-Men film of all time. No details yet on the plot for the follow-up.

Jackman will soon be seen in X-Men: Days of Future Past and has also played the role of 'Wolverine' in X-Men: First Class, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men 2 and, of course, the original X-Men movie back in 2000.

Jackman's other upcoming big screen projects include Chappie, Pan and The Greatest Showman on Earth.

Past film credits include Prisoners, Les Miserables, Real Steel, The Prestige, The Fountain, the TV movie version of the musical Oklahoma! and more.

Jackman, who will be returning for the fourth time as the host of the 2014 Tony Awards, has appeared on Broadway in The Boy From Oz (which won him a 2004 Tony Award), A Steady Rain and Hugh Jackman, Back on Broadway. The actor was also honored with a special Tony Award in 2012.
