Adam Sandler is currently filming Tom McCarthy's upcoming indie drama THE COBBLER. Below, check out a first look at the actor who portrays a lonely New York shoe repairman in the film, courtesy of EWonline!

THE COBBLER is described as a modern-day telling of a "shoe man who has the ability to metaphysically step into the lives of the people whose shoes he repairs."

"For a guy who's known as a funny guy, Adam has a very soulful quality to him," McCarthy tells the site. "One of the things that makes Adam right for [the role] is that he does handle the various levels of comedy very well. And he transitions really well from comedy to drama. He can make even the smallest, simplest moments funny."

Sandler will soon begin filming on Jason Reitman' Men Women & Children. His most recent films include Grown Ups 2 and That's My Boy.

After becoming a Saturday Night Live cast member, Sandler went on to star in many Hollywood feature films that combined have grossed over $2 billion at the box office. He is best known for his comedic roles, such as in the filmsBilly Madison (1995), Happy Gilmore (1996), The Waterboy (1998), Big Daddy (1999), and Mr. Deeds (2002),
