Tuaranga, New Zealand

Authors Vaughan and Jill Cullen began their van trip in October 2012 in Perth, West Australia. After a trip up to Shark Bay, they returned via an inland route to travel anticlockwise around and, eventually, right across Central Australia on their last leg home to Brisbane. They worked in orchards and, later, in the Upper Hunter Valley, grapevine pruning with a great mixture of young travellers from around the world.

"Australian Van Trip" (published by Xlibris NZ) follows the Cullens' day to day adventures over 44,000 kilometers and one and a quarter years in the Australian outback driving their four wheel drive, L300 Mitsubishi van. It provided them access to the many out back tracks and the many beaches and bays that normally one could not get to in a standard vehicle.

"Most travel books around Australia are only short localized ones and our book does a comprehensive narrative of the whole journey around and across the hot barren central parts of Australia. We think our book gives people an insight on what equipment is required and what conditions you can strike for an intended journey and what fantastic places can be found in the outback Australia," say the authors.

"This book will appeal to two generations as a guide to what they intend to do. It is for the travelling youth from many countries who intend to do their overseas working holidays and are craving for information on this subject. It is also for the semi-retired people who have spent their working life dreaming and planning their trip," Vaughan and Jill Cullen added.
