The LA Times is reporting that actor and director Andreas Voutsinas died on Tuesday in an Athens, Greece hospital. He was 79.

Born on August 22, 1932 in Sudan, Voutsinas is perhaps most recognized for his roles in three of Mel Brooks' most popular movies: Carmen Ghia in The Producers (1968), Nikolai Sestrin in The Twelve Chairs (1970), and Bearnaise in History of the World: Part I (1981). In addition to his film credits, Voutsinas appeared on Broadway in J.B., The Changeling, and The Natural Look. He directed Jane Fonda on Broadway in 1962's The Fun Couple.

In addition to his performing and directorial credits, Voutsinas served as an acting coach for Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, and Ann Bancroft.
