Penobscot Theatre Company is thrilled to announce that it has secured the theatrical rights to Rock of Ages, and will produce the Maine premiere as a bonus show this season. "I am not going to lie," said Producing Artistic Director Bari Newport, "I screamed and literally jumped for joy when I got the call. It's a great honor to be selected to premier the show, and we will absolutely do it justice!" While performance dates and times have yet to be announced, Newport reports that the show will open in June and run into July to serve residents and summer visitors alike.

With a book by Chris D'Arienzo, Rock of Ages celebrates the unforgettable music of the 1980s, when how bands looked seemingly mattered as much as how they sounded. "We're excited to team knock-out vocalists and musical theatre pros with some stellar designers to take audiences back to the awesome 80s. The so-called hair bands were all about style," says Newport, "but their music had real staying power." The song list includes fan favorites from Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Steve Perry, and Poison, among others.

The original Broadway production of Rock of Ages closed January 2015 as the 27th-longest running show in Broadway history.

Tickets to the special production will go on sale in early 2016 and will be available first to season subscribers. For more information about the theatre's 2015-2016 season, educational programs, and special productions, visit the theatre's websitewww.penobscottheatre.org.
