Late Night Improv Show THE HOT KARL Comes to a Close 6/14
After 15 years, the popular late night improv show THE HOT KARL is coming to a close on June 14, 2014 at The ComedySportz Theatre (929 W Belmont). Since 1999, every Saturday at midnight, some of Chicago's best improvisers and eager audience members have packed into The ComedySportz Theatre for a night of unpredictable and unadulterated fun. Starting in April, THE HOT KARL is celebrating by inviting some of the top names in Chicago comedy to see them off.
Founding member Frank Caeti (MAD TV) credits the Hot Karl with "some of the most creative, uninhibited improv I have ever done. That, and the constant fear that some drunk guy might storm the stage and try to beat us up."
Tim Chidester, a founding member, calls the show, "Dirty twisted improv" and says that, "Some people are ready for it. Some aren't." Chidester explains that show is witty and that when they go blue, "it's like dirty sprinkles on top." Chidester explained that the show is like a cross between "Monty Python and Don Rickles," making it both a surreal and off color performance. "It has some truth and heart to it...It can be nasty, but it has a lot of heart to it."
