Comedian Pete Davidson is SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE's Newest Featured Player

Deadline reports that comedian Pete Davidson has signed on to join the 40th season of NBC's SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE as the sketch comedy's newest featured player. The stand-up comic will be the sole new comedian to join the show in its upcoming season.

Last year, SNL welcomed six new featured players, including Kyle Mooney, Beck Bennett, Noël Wells, John Milhiser, Brooks Wheelan and Michael Patrick O'Brien. Sasheer Zamata joined the show in January. This season, only three of the seven will return with Wells, Milhiser and Wheelan being cut from the show in July. O'Brien will return in a writing capacity.

Last week, NBC announced that Michael Che was named the new co-anchor of SNL's Weekend Update alongside Colin Jost. The comic will replace previous co-anchor Cecily Strong. In other SNL news, Nasim Pedrad exited the show following five seasons, making the final cast Vanessa Bayer, Beck Bennett, Aidy Bryant, Michael Che, Pete Davidson, Colin Jost, Taran Killam, Kate McKinnon, Bobby Moynihan, Kyle Mooney, Jay Pharoah, Cecily Strong, Kenan Thompson and Sasheer Zamata. The season will kick off on Sept. 27 with host Chris Pratt.

Davidson was a fixture on the New York comedy scene, and was discovered by Nick Cannon who made him a semi-regular on the revival of Nick Cannon Presents: Wild 'N Out improv comedy series on MTV2 last year. He made his film acting debut in Cannon's direct-to-video School Dance.
