The World Music Institute Appoints Par Neiburger Artistic Director and Cynthia McVay as Acting Executive Director

The World Music Institute is pleased to announce Par Neiburger as newly appointed Artistic Director. Neiburger brings with him a rich and diverse background in music presenting, innovative multidisciplinary programming, and non-profit arts management.

At 35, Neiburger joins WMI following his work founding and organizing the Trinumeral Music and Arts Festival for 12 years. Many national and international music acts performed at Trinumeral events, including: Zakir Hussain, Vieux Farka Toure, Tinariwen, The Sun Ra Arkestra, Big Boi of Outkast, Edgar Meyer, Bela Fleck, Galactic, Flying Lotus,Midnite, Pretty Lights and Bonobo.

With roots in Miami, FL and Asheville, NC, Neiburger has also previously worked with Asheville Bravo Concerts (The African Children's Choir, The State Symphony of Mexico, Tango Buenos Aires, The Cleveland Orchestra); the South Florida Composers Alliance's yearly Subtropics Festival, a non-profit dedicated to experimental music, sound art, and contemporary classical composers (John Cage, Merce Cunningham, David Tudor, Derek Bailey); and Locust Projects, a non-profit exhibition space for visual artists.

"I have had a deep passion for International music my entire life and I am truly excited to be taking the position of Artistic Director with such a world-class organization," says Neiburger.

Joining Neiburger in his new role is Cynthia McVay, a current member of the World Music Institute board of directors, who will serve as Acting Executive Director. McVay has worked in strategy and management in a variety of capacities for over 25 years, working with non-profits, start-ups and household names, beginning her career at McKinsey & Co. Most recently, she headed up the inaugural Office of Innovation for the Peace Corps, based in Washington DC.

This pair of appointments follows the departure of previous Executive and Artistic Director Karen Sander, who recently moved to the CUNY Graduate Center to become Director of Public Programs.
