With the most generous patrocinio of the Comune di Sabbioneta and the Associazione per Boboli of Florence, we opened our eighth season with two concerts in Italy. From Ghetto to Cappella, and At the Pleasure of Mazarin - two original projects that debuted in New York and Boston, respectively, inaugurated Salon/Sanctuary Italia, a new initiative dedicated to cross-cultural historical performance collaboration.

In anticipation of its February 2017 performance the La Serenissima Festival of Carnegie Hall, we are deeply honored to have had the opportunity to perform From Ghetto to Cappella, our Salomone Rossi project, in the Teatro all'Antica di Sabbioneta, one of three remaining Renaissance theaters in the world, constructed by Rossi's protector, Vincenzo Gonzaga, in 1590.

Migrating from the Po to the Arno, we were thrilled to present At the Pleasure of Mazarin, our original program of Roman works brought to Versailles by the Sun King's Cardinal. The teatrino of the 1470 Palazzo Lenzi of Florence, home to the Institut Français de Florence, was host to our concert of Roman works housed in the Bibliothèque Nationale de Paris.

At the Pleasure of Mazarin, translated into Italian as I Diletti di Mazzarino, was presented for the first time in 2007 at the Beacon Hill Friends House in Cambridge, MA, as a fringe concert of the Boston Early Music Festival, featuring soprano Jessica Gould and lutenist Charles Weaver.

We are profoundly grateful for the most generous patrocinio of the Associazione per Boboli, which not only made the event possible, but also reminded us of the Medici-French weddings that took place in the magnificent gardens just across the Arno.

Stay tuned for upcoming collaborations with the illustrious Associazione, among many other historic Florentine institutions, as we prepare to announce our third annual Florence festival, to take place from June 1st to June 8th. In the meantime, information on our previous Florence festival programs can be found here.
