The San Diego Women's Chorus has been named the San Diego Gay Men's Chorus Outreach Partner for SDGMC's 30th Anniversary Celebration kickoff concert, Greatest Hits-Volume One this weekend, April 18 & 19 at the Balboa Theatre.

The San Diego Women's Chorus have sung to combat oppression and fight for equality for nearly 30 years. The lesbian and feminist-identified community chorus encourages women's creativity, celebrates diversity and inspires social action.

"Our sister chorus is amazing," said SDGMC President Bob Lehman. "Not only are they talented singers, but they are dedicated to making a positive, uplifting impact on our community."

A perfect example is SDWC's benefit concert Broadway, Our Way with Frenchie Davis on May 17 at the Balboa Theatre for the Lesbian Health Initiative of the San Diego Human Dignity Foundation. They will also present a Broadway-themed Cabaret fundraising show in solo and small ensemble style on April 25 at the Irenic in North Park. More information about these events can be found at www.sdwc.org.

"Frenchie Davis' vocal talent is astounding," said SDWC President Heather Robert. "But what makes her the perfect special guest-just like our guests last year, the Indigo Girls-is the way she uses her voice when she's off stage to speak up for justice and equality for women, people in the LGBT community and people of color."

SDGMC has a long history of outreach through its community partner program recognizing organizations that have had a major impact on San Diego. Past partners have included the Boys & Girls Clubs, Voices for Children foster care, Mama's Kitchen and San Diego's performing arts high school.

"We are proud to partner with an organization that shares a common goal of inspiring social action and connecting with communities through music," said Dr. Carlos Salazar, Outreach Director. "This diverse group of women comes together and transcends music into art, making them the perfect partner for SDGMC as we celebrate 30 years of sharing music and joy in San Diego."
