EXPLORERS OF THE UNIVERSE

Thursday 24 September - Monday 2 November

To celebrate the International Year of Astronomy and as part of the Hall's reflect series, Explorers of the Universe is a selection of photographs by Max Alexander, portraying all aspects of astronomy in the UK.

Through interpretive and character portraits Max Alexander introduces us to the astronomers at the forefront of our understanding of the cosmos. This is supported by reportage photography of professional and amateur astronomy. These photographs range from academic research and observation through to the stargazing public, capturing a truly wonderful journey that the scientists and the community are travelling.

Max Alexander is a fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and has had a lifelong interest in astronomy. In the course of taking these photographs across the UK, he has got to know well the community of astronomers, in one of the few sciences where amateurs make a valuable contribution.

On Sunday 4 October there will be a talk by Professor John Zarnecki, a leading figure in astronomy. Entitled Explorers of the Solar System, he gives us an engaging personal account of his experiences exploring the far reaches of the Solar System.

Tickets are £6.50 and include a glass of wine. You can also add a short tour of the Hall to your visit for an additional £3.50. To book, please call the Box Office or visit www.royalalberthall.com
