Right in time for Mardi Gras, Portland Ovations brings the sounds of the French Quarter to Portland when they present the Preservation Hall Jazz Band live in concert at Merrill Auditorium tonight, February 11th at 7:30pm.

Called the "quintessential New Orleans institution" by The New York Times, one can't hear the funky tuba lines, backbeat drumming, sax rifts or indelible grooves without being instantly transported back to the pulsing and influential era of 1960s New Orleans. Having recently celebrated their fiftieth anniversary with its first recording of all original compositions titled "That's It," and a sold-out Carnegie Hall concert that included My Morning Jacket, Tom Waits, Merle Haggard, Mos Def and others - Preservation Hall is set to usher in the next decade of world class jazz. With many musicians related to the original players by blood - and all connected through the sheer power of tradition - their music embodies a joyful, timeless spirit, whether performing at Lincoln Center or around the corner from Bourbon Street. The New York Times states, "With members ranging from 20-somethings to octogenarians, these musicians play the indigenous, traditional Crescent City jazz in a way that might make fans believe the saints are really marching in."

Tickets for Preservation Hall Jazz Band range from $33-$40 for Ovations' Members and $36-$44 for the general public. Maine Audiology generously sponsors this presentation of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Media support is generously provided by Dispatch Magazine.
