Portland Ovations brings Maine native Andrew Cyr and the Metropolis Ensemble to the Victoria Mansion in Portland, Maine for three performances of Brownstone tonight, October 3, at 5:30pm, 6:30pm and 7:30pm.

The Metropolis Ensemble is a Grammy Award-nominated, Brooklyn-based chamber orchestra created and led by Maine native, Andrew Cyr who grew up in Fort Kent and graduated from Bates College in Lewiston. Cyr has emerged as a leader in the rapidly growing contemporary classical music scene performing concerts in non-traditional settings with hopes to grow audiences for the genre. The Metropolis Ensemble has played Radio City Music Hall, traveled to Washington D.C., collaborated with The Roots on their latest album and performed live on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

Brownstone is a work composed by Jakub Ciupinski commissioned by Metropolis Ensemble and will be performed by individual and small groups of musicians from several rooms throughout the Victoria Mansion. Patrons are encouraged to walk around the house during the piece to experience the tapestry of sounds filling the halls and stairways as the instruments blend in different ways depending on one's location. This is truly a First Friday Art Walk event like no other.

The 5:30 pm performance is a special ticketed preview and cocktail reception with the Metropolis Ensemble costing $50 per person and tickets can be purchased by calling PortTIX at 207.842.0800 or stopping by the box office at Merrill Auditorium.

Free performances take place at 6:30 & 7:30 pm but reservations are required. Call the Victoria Mansion at 207.772.4841 ext. 10 to make your reservation.

Earlier Friday, October 3rd at 1pm - a multi-media presentation by composer Jakub Ciupinski takes place at the USM School of Music in Gorham. The composer will explore the creation of Brownstone as well as discuss his other works for electronic and interactive performances, Theramin and film. For more information about the presentation call Ovations Offstage at 207.773.3150 ext. 3 or email offstage@portlandovations.org
