Pacific Chorale, the resident choir of Segerstrom Center for the Arts, is "mixing it up" in their opening night concert, with selections ranging from lyric - to triumphant - to tragic. The choir will perform with members of Pacific Symphony's brass ensemble and organist Jung-A Lee; Maestro John Alexander, conducting.

The evening includes Anton Bruckner's laudatory anthem Ecce Sacerdos Magnus, Norman Dello Joio's triumphant salute to St. Cecilia (patron saint of Music), and Bat Yiftach - Israeli composer Aharon Harlap's retelling of the heartbreaking story of Jepthah's daughter. Also to be presented are a pair of Walt Whitman offerings by Gustav Holst and René Clausen; a rousing folksong setting by Percy Grainger, and virtuosic instrumental selections by Eugène Gigout and Craig Phillips.

Concert - 5:30 p.m.; preview talk at 4:30 p.m. Renée & Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall; Segerstrom Center for the Arts, Costa Mesa. Concert tickets range from $19 to $79 ($129 for premium box seats), and are available from Pacific Chorale at (714) 662-2345, at www.pacificchorale.org or from Segerstrom Center for the Arts at (714) 556-2787, www.scfta.org.

Founded in 1968, Pacific Chorale is internationally recognized for exceptional artistic expression, stimulating American-focused programming, and influential education programs. Pacific Chorale presents a substantial performance season of its own at Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Orange County, California, and is sought regularly to perform with the nation's leading symphonies. Under the inspired guidance of Artistic Director John Alexander, Pacific Chorale has infused an Old World art form with California's hallmark innovation and cultural independence, developing innovative new concepts in programming, and expanding the traditional concepts of choral repertoire and performance.

In addition to its long-standing partnership with Pacific Symphony, the Chorale has performed with such renowned American ensembles as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony, the National Symphony, San Diego Symphony, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, and Musica Angelica. John Alexander and the Chorale have toured extensively in Europe, South America and Asia, collaborating with the London Symphony, the Munich Symphony, L'Orchestre Lamoureux and L'Orchestre de St-Louis-en-l'Île of Paris, the National Orchestra of Belgium, the China National Symphony, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, the Estonian National Symphony, and the Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional of Argentina.
