Lynn University's Conservatory of Music to Offer 15 Events This Fall

Jon Robertson, dean of Lynn University's Conservatory of Music and Philharmonia Guest Conductor, today invited the public to attend 15 musical performances during October and November 2016.

"Our talented students and extraordinary faculty look forward to sharing the beautiful world of music throughout our seventh season in the Keith C. and Elaine Johnson Wold Performing Arts Center, a world-class concert hall that enhances our performing artists' musical offerings," said Robertson. "We will present a variety of musical offerings designed to enrich the artistic spirit and nourish the soul."

This season's Conservatory of Music concerts run through April in the Keith C. and Elaine Johnson Wold Performing Arts Center, the Amarnick-Goldstein Concert Hall and the new Snyder Sanctuary, all located on Lynn's Boca Raton campus.


Oct. 5

Keyboard Master Class with Michael Tsalka

Michael Tsalka earned his bachelors degree from Tel Aviv University; a piano solo diploma from the Scuola Superiore Internazionale del Trio di Trieste; and three degrees, including a doctorate in piano performance, from Temple University. He has presented 75 master classes and lecture-recitals. Tsalka was the artistic director of the Bach Festival in Beijing and co-artistic director of the Nordic Historical Keyboard Festival in Kuopio, Finland.

Oct. 6

J.S. Bach: The Art of the Fugue with Keyboardist Michael Tsalka

Performing with equal virtuosity on the harpsichord, fortepiano, clavichord, square piano, chamber organ and modern piano, Tsalka presents a wide span of music, from early Baroque to the present. He will perform on the conservatory's historic fortepiano and its new double-manual harpsichord, built by conservatory student John Weisberg.

Oct. 9

2016 Lynn Concerto Competition Final Round

Finalists perform before guest judges Robert Sullivan, trumpet (Northwestern University); Borivoj Martinic-Jercic, violin (Iowa State University); and Marina Lomazov, piano (University of South Carolina). Winners perform as soloists with the Lynn Philharmonia Nov. 12 and 13, conducted by Maestro Guillermo Figueroa.

Oct. 10

Piano Master Class with Marina Lomazov

Marina Lomazov has given performances in South America, Asia, Europe and in nearly all 50 states. She has performed as soloist with the Boston Pops, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and Piccolo Spoleto. She is professor of piano at the University of South Carolina where she is founder and artistic director of the Southeastern Piano Festival.

Snyder Sanctuary Series

These concerts feature musical performances and dramatic poetry readings by Lynn's young artists

Violin Master Class with Elmar Oliveira

Internationally renowned performer Elmar Oliveira, Lynn's Distinguished Artist in Residence, is a devoted teacher and promoter of young violinists. He was the first violinist to receive the coveted Avery Fisher Prize and the first and only American violinist to win the Gold Medal at Moscow's prestigious Tchaikovsky International Competition.

Snyder Sanctuary Series

These concerts feature musical performances and dramatic poetry readings by Lynn's young artists

PEN Trio

Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

One of the most distinguished woodwind ensembles touring today, the PEN Trio is passionate about promoting the music of our time. The group regularly commissions leading composers to write for the ensemble. This performance features a full program of works written for the PEN Trio.

Nov. 16

Violin Master Class with Renata Arado

Renata Arado began violin instruction in the Suzuki method at age two. She was principal second violin of Norway's Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra for 13 years. She has collaborated with Isaac Stern, Julia Fischer, Yefim Bronfman, Joshua Bell and Gil Shaham. This master class will feature students competing in the Lynn Chamber Music Competition. Arado will also join the conservatory faculty on the Mostly Music Mendelssohn concert Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m.

Mendelssohn

Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847) was born just 18 years after Mozart's death, and many regarded him as Mozart's heir. Like Mozart, he would have a short life span, but still composed some of our best-loved masterpieces. He was also a wonderful correspondent, writing about his visits with such people as Queen Victoria and Goethe. Mostly Music was conceived and is hosted by Marshall Turkin and is staged by Jan McArt.
