Lancaster Symphony Orchestra & Arts at Millersville University Set New Partnership

The Lancaster Symphony Orchestra (LSO) and The Office of Visual and Performing Arts at Millersville University announce with great excitement a new partnership and performance venture for classical and popular music lovers alike in Lancaster County.

The LSO and The Arts at Millersville are broadening the spectrum of good orchestral music beginning the 2015 concert season in September with Hollywood Heroes and Villains-a tribute to Hollywood's greatest composers with music we love from Star Wars, Superman, and more. This is a family-friendly, full orchestra performance complete with many surprises including favorite movie characters and a costume contest. It will be the opening night of the Arts Season for Millersville University.

The second full orchestra concert in May 2016, Broadway Our Way, will star Will & Anthony Nunziata singing the best of Broadway tunes. The brothers are touted by Entertainment magazine as having, "amazing voices," and are described by Huffington Post as, "a nearly impossible pairing of talent, stage presence, and charisma."

These two popular, family-friendly music performances synchronize the intentions of both the LSO and The Arts at Millersville to provide musical enrichment to patrons and increase their ability to support fine performances from two of Lancaster's premier arts organizations.

Performances will take place at Clair Performance Hall in the Winter Visual & Performing Arts Center on the campus of Millersville University. Ticket sales will begin with LSO and The Arts at Millersville University patrons and open to the public this summer.

"I was looking to do something a bit different for our 5th season opening night, and partnering with the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra on a new venture sounded exciting and right up my alley," says Director of the Office of Visual & Performing Arts Laura Kendall. "It's an opportunity for the University to grow audiences for orchestra music and enhance the learning of our students."

"Classical music is and always will be the core of our programs under Maestro Stephen Gunzenhauser's artistic direction, and this new series allows us to expand our programming and let our hair down a bit more," explains Executive Director Paige McFarling. "Laura and I have been talking for some time about how we can combine forces and resources, and I am grateful for her energetic and collaborative leadership that is helping to make this happen."

The Orchestra will continue to offer their high quality classical series at the Fulton, and expanding into the popular musical territory is a bold and adventurous direction that offers more to its loyal audiences and also deepens opportunities for new audiences. McFarling adds, "Our goal is to bring more value to Lancaster County performing arts patrons by combining the strengths of two strong arts organizations into one experience, and to energize the musicians and audiences of tomorrow while being good stewards of the generous donors who support both of our organizations. Together, we are able to do more, stretch farther, and emerge with something new."
