Country singer-songwriter Kaitlyn Baker has been added to the lineup at the House of Blues in Los Angeles on Friday, May 2.
The 19-year-old from Pound, Virginia, will preview songs from her forthcoming album on Nashville's Silvercreek Records label, to be released through Sony/RED, including her debut single "Burn."
"'Burn' is a powerful song about a relationship gone bad and how one woman deals with it," Baker said. "I think a lot of people will be able to relate it."
Baker, who has been singing professionally since the age of 7, is making her Southern California debut at the House of Blues, with other performances scheduled at the nightclub AMPLYFi in Hollywood on May 3 and the Young Artist Awards in Studio City on May 4.
Sitting in with Baker at the House of Blues will be LA-based, award-winning keyboard player, singer and songwriter Ben Babylon, who is working on an album with members of the Elton John Band and GRAMMY-winning producer Matt Still.
Babylon, whose late father, Guy Babylon, was Elton John's keyboardist and arranger for 21 years, is steadily gaining a reputation as one of the region's most versatile young rock artists.
"I'm looking forward to performing with Kaitlyn Baker," Babylon said. "I love how her songs are country at the core, but she mixes in tasteful blues and rock feels and rhythms. And her unique lyrics are far from the ordinary of typical country songs."
Also backing Baker will be guitarist Brian Schwartz, who is a member of the Ben Babylon Band; Baker's manager and producer Scott Arnold on bass; and LA-based percussionist/drummer Edo Tancredi.
Having grown up with a father and grandfather who worked in the southwestern Virginia coal mines, Baker has been called a new a "coal miner's daughter," a reference to the original "Coal Miner's Daughter," country music legend Loretta Lynn. In June, she will tape an episode of the nationally syndicated television concert program "Song of the Mountains."
