Juanjo Mena Leads LA Phil in Four Performances at Walt Disney Hall, Now thru 6/2

One of Spain's most distinguished conductors, Juanjo Mena, makes his Walt Disney Concert Hall debut, leading the Los Angeles Philharmonic in four performances, tonight, May 30, at 8 pm, Friday, May 31, at 11 am, Saturday, June 1, at 8 pm, and Sunday, June 2, at 2 pm. The program opens with Brahms' Symphony No. 3, continues with Mozart's popular Symphony No. 40 and concludes with Brahms' Hungarian Dances Nos. 1, 6 and 5.

Juanjo Mena, Chief Conductor of the BBC Philharmonic in Manchester and Principal Guest Conductor of the Bergen Philharmonic in Norway, is a frequent visitor to U.S. orchestras. Worldwide, he has appeared with the Dresden Philharmonic, Munich Radio Orchestra, Orchestre National de France, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Orchestre National de Lyon, Oslo Philharmonic, Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Danish Radio Symphony, Orchestra FilarMonica Della Scala, Orquesta Nacional de España, Orquesta Sinfónica del Estado de São Paulo, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic, and the BBC Scottish Symphony, among others. Two of Mena's most recent Chandos releases with the BBC Philharmonic were awarded Gramophone's Editor's Choice: "The Three-Cornered Hat" by Manuel De Falla (May 2011), and his album of Gabriel Pierné works (March 2011). Mo. Mena has also recorded a collection of Basque symphonic music for Naxos with the Bilbao Symphony. Mena made his LA Phil debut at the Hollywood Bowl in September of 2011.
