Detroit Symphony Orchestra to Perform New Year's Eve Concert, 12/31; Broadcast Planned

This New Year's Eve we invite you to usher in 2015 Detroit-style. Whether you've made plans or you're still deciding what to do, join Detroit Public Television (DPTV) and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) for the first-ever DPTV-DSO Live from Orchestra Hall gala and concert.

This special broadcast, hosted by the dynamic duo of DPTV's own Fred Nahhat and Michigan Public Radio host of All Things Considered, Jennifer White, will start at 10:00 p.m. and continue past midnightto welcome in 2015.

Led by the DSO's Principal Pops Conductor Jeff Tyzik, the orchestra will perform a swinging combination of jazz standards like "Sweet Georgia Brown" and "Ain't Misbehavin'" featuring jazz trumpet legend Byron Stripling and organist Bobby Floyd, as well as light classical selections by Strauss and Smetana. Guests will be invited to sing along with a full orchestral performance of "Auld Lang Syne," making the audience literally part of the show. The party will continue following the concert with a choice of traditional dance band, Jazz lounge and dance club atmospheres throughout The Max.

The celebration does not stop there. Throughout the broadcast, Fred and Jennifer will be talking to special guests and sharing with you some of the energy and excitement happening downtown.
