Bach Vespers to Perform Fresh Take on a Bach Classic at Holy Trinity This Sunday

Bach Vespers at Holy Trinity closes its 48th season with a fresh take on a Bach classic, featuring The Bach Choir and Bach Players (Donald R. Meineke, Music Director) and Dark Horse Consort on Sunday, April 17th, 2016 at 5 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, at Central Park West & 65th Street in Manhattan. Free-will offering.

The multiple Grammy-nominated Bach Choir and players join forces with the Dark Horse Consort to perform one of Johann Sebastian Bach's best-loved cantatas, Christlag in Todesbanden BWV 4.

Written early in Bach's career and seen as a milestone in the great master's output, this cantata will take on new life and meaning in with the collaboration of two of the great early-music institution in North America. Under the direction of Bach Vespers music director Donald R Meineke, the program will also feature Hieronymus Praetorius's Surrexit pastor bonus.

Called "New York's temple to Bach" by the New York Times, hailed for it's "tradition of high-calibre Sunday-afternoon Baroque performances," and named "a cultural landmark" by the New York Landmarks Conservancy, Bach Vespers at Holy Trinity was the first organization in the Western Hemisphere to present the cantatas and other works of Johann Sebastian Bach and his contemporaries within their intended sacred context. Bach Vespers at Holy Trinity are free, open to the public and made possible through a freewill offering.
