Capitalizing on the appeal of singing-competition shows like "American Idol" and "The Voice," the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) hosts its eighth annual singing competition, "O, Say Can You Sing?" today, May 28, 2015. Contestants will audition for a panel of three judges for the chance to sing the "Star-Spangled Banner" alongside the BSO in front of thousands of patrons at the BSO's annual Star-Spangled Spectacular concerts held at Baltimore County's Oregon Ridge Park on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4, 2015. Please see below for complete competition and event details.

The competition is open to singers ages eight to 18. Appointment-only auditions will take place today, May 28, 2015 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Parental permission will be required of all contestants. Audition times will be appointed on a first-come, first-served basis. Registered contestants should enter through the administrative entrance to the building, located on Cathedral Street and check in with the receptionist. Participants will be required to sing the "Star-Spangled Banner" in the key of B-flat major (starting note is F) or A-flat major (starting note is E-flat) along with an accompanist, provided by the BSO. Contestants will be judged on singing ability and stage presence.
