Andrey Boreyko to Lead Hilary Hahn and the LA Phil in Nielsen's Violin Concerto, 1/31-2/2

Conductor Andrey Boreyko returns to Walt Disney Concert Hall to lead the Los Angeles Philharmonic in a dramatic Nordic program Friday and Saturday, January 31 and February 1, at 8 pm, as well as Sunday, February 2, at 2 pm. He is joined by Hilary Hahn, a favorite of LA Phil audiences, playing Danish composer Carl Nielsen's Violin Concerto in its first-ever performances by the LA Phil. Also on the program are the U.S. premiere of Anders Hillborg's King Tide and Sibelius' Symphony No. 2.

Andrey Boreyko holds the position of Music Director of the Orchestre National de Belgique and the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker. In North America, Andrey Boreyko is Music Director Designate of Naples Philharmonic and he additionally holds the position of Principal Guest Conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Euskadi. He is also now the honorary conductor of the Jenaer Philharmonie, and in the course of his five-year term as chief conductor, the board of directors of the Deutscher Musikverleger-Verband/Germany awarded himand his orchestra the distinction of best concert program for three seasons in succession. Boreyko has given concerts with nearly every world-renowned orchestra and successfully conducted the leading European and American orchestras. Numerous CDs, as well as TV and radio recordings, demonstrate Boreyko's artistic versatility. Arvo Pärt's Lamentate as well as Valentin Silvestrov's Symphony No. 6 are among Andrey Boreyko's CD recordings in 2005-2006, recorded with the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra and released by ECM Records Munich. In 2006, Hänssler Classic released Boreyko's live recording with the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra of Dmitry Shostakovich's Symphony No. 4 and the world premiere of his original version of the Suite op. 29 from the opera Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk. Boreyko continues an extensive recording project of all Shostakovich symphonies with the Orchestre National de Belgique, having already recorded Nos. 2, 4, 6, 9 and 15 with Radio-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart des SWR (with whom he held the position of Principal Guest Conductor).

The 2013/14 season marks the 30th anniversary of Hahn's first violin lesson. In the two decades since her professional debut, Hahn has followed her passion for adventurous programming, delving into core repertoire, contemporary music, and less familiar classic compositions with equal commitment; and bringing virtuosity, expansive interpretations, and daring repertoire choices to diverse global audiences. Between September and June, Hahn will give performances in nearly 50 cities in 14 countries throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. In spring 2014, Hahn will dedicate two months of the season to her ongoing recital collaboration with pianist Cory Smythe. The 2013/14 season sees the release of Hahn's long-awaited album, In 27 Pieces: the Hilary Hahn Encores, with pianist Cory Smythe. This recording is the culmination of a multi-year project to renew the encore genre. The international premiere tours, from 2011 to 2013, were met with wide critical and audience acclaim. Hahn's gregarious personality reaches out to students, new listeners, and anyone with an interest in music and the arts. She is an avid writer and interviewer, posting journal entries and articles on her website, hilaryhahn.com. Additionally, she produces a YouTube channel, youtube.com/hilaryhahnvideos.
