The Amarillo Symphony invites all local press and media entities to attend Symphony Kids, January 12, 2017 at the Amarillo Civic Center Auditorium.

Led by Jacomo Bairos, the full membership of the Amarillo Symphony is pleased to present Carnegie Hall's Link Up: The Orchestra Moves, an educational concert experience designed for students in grades 3-5.

By any definition, music moves. Sometimes music might create a sense of physical movement as sounds become heavier or lighter, rise up or tumble down. When an orchestra plays, more than one kind of movement may be noticed - sounds can be heard moving as the musicians change their pitches, rhythms, and dynamics; and, one can see the musicians' bodies move as they play. In this informative, motif-based program, students explore how melody, rhythm, and harmony all change, shift, and develop. Through the Link Up repertoire and the culminating interactive performance, students will discover how the orchestra moves. Repertoire highlights include Strauss's The Blue Danube, Mendelssohn's Nocturne from A Midsummer Night's Dream, Beethoven's Symphony No. 5, Mvt. 1, and Mozart's Overture to The Marriage of Figaro.

Performances for the January 12, 2017 concerts begin at 9:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. at the Amarillo Civic Center Auditorium.
