The New York Philharmonic and Music Director Alan Gilbert announce the launch of Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic: 2014-15 Season - a series of eight recordings of live performances from the current season, plus a bonus album of selections from the inaugural NY PHIL BIENNIAL, now available for download and streaming through major digital download services. Building on its tradition as a media pioneer, the Philharmonic is expanding its digital recordings series by offering two of the releases through Google Play Music's newly launched Classical Live - a new initiative that makes recent, live recordings by the world's leading orchestras available on Google Play Music both as digital downloads and by streaming subscription.

The Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic: 2014-15 Season recording series and bonus album together present more than 25 works performed during Alan Gilbert's fifth and sixth seasons as the Orchestra's Music Director. The newly released performances include music by The Marie-Jose?e Kravis Composer-in-Residence Christopher Rouse; performances by Artist-in- Association Inon Barnatan and pianist Emanuel Ax, a former Mary and James G. Wallach Artist- in-Residence; Bruckner's Symphony No. 8; Stravinsky's Petrushka; solo appearances by New York Philharmonic musicians including Acting Concertmaster Sheryl Staples, violinist Yulia Ziskel, Principal Viola Cynthia Phelps, Associate Principal Viola Rebecca Young, and Principal Flute Robert Langevin; the Philharmonic's critically acclaimed performance of Verdi's Requiem; and highlights from the inaugural NY PHIL BIENNIAL, the May-June 2014 exploration of today's music by a wide range of contemporary and modern composers.

The series' recordings, accompanied by digital liner notes, are available for download from all major digital download services including iTunes, and Amazon.com, as well as by visiting Watch & Listen on nyphil.org (at a cost ranging from $9.99 to $13.99 per album). New this season, Verdi's Requiem and the inaugural NY PHIL BIENNIAL are also available for download or streaming on classical-live.com. All recordings are available for streaming on Spotify.

The New York Philharmonic, a longtime media pioneer, was the first major American orchestra to offer downloadable concerts, recorded live, in 2004. Following on this innovation, in 2009 the Orchestra announced the first-ever subscription download series: Alan Gilbert: The Inaugural Season, available exclusively on iTunes, produced and distributed by the New York Philharmonic, and comprising more than 80 works, including 7 commissions, performed during the 2009-10 season. Since 1917 the Philharmonic has made nearly 2,000 recordings, with more than 500 currently available. The Philharmonic began radio broadcasts in 1922, and is currently represented by The New York Philharmonic This Week - syndicated worldwide 52 weeks per year, and available on nyphil.org. On television, in the 1950s and '60s, the Philharmonic inspired a generation through Bernstein's Young People's Concerts on CBS. Its television presence has continued with annual appearances on Live From Lincoln Center on PBS, and in 2003 it made history as the first Orchestra ever to perform live on the Grammy awards, one of the most- watched television events worldwide.
