In the U.S., every nine seconds a woman is assaulted or beaten. The affects of domestic violence can continue after the abuse stops, taking form in addictions, depression and anxiety. Author Carol Romeo asks, is it possible to make these feelings disappear for good?

In her new book, "Traveling With the Life-Giver", Romeo uses her own experiences of abuse to help others dealing with domestic violence. Writing the book while trying to repair her own life, Romeo now shares her story to heal others with similar pasts.

"'Traveling With the Life-Giver" became a vital part of my process in healing my soul," Romeo said. "It made me reevaluate life and the gifts I was given."

This book takes a unique spin on self-help by communicating in an allegorical form. The main character, Cherished, goes through her life descending from happiness to despair and shame. With help from the Life-Giver, Cherished is sent to aid others after she uncovers truth and understanding.

Throughout the book, Romeo uses her psychology degree, as well as experiences with God to include both psychological and spiritual principles. As a licensed marriage and family therapist, Romeo has made it her life's work to help others overcome the problems in their lives.

"Writing this book helped me through a lot...and it is my deepest hope that it will help many others," Romeo said.
