Valerie J. Ryan does not have children of her own, and she considers children to be one's legacy. She has always loved children and being involved with her niece as she grew up as well as the children of her neighbors and friends. She wanted to leave a legacy for the next generation and this inspired her to write "Lucinda's Wormy Journey" (published by Archway Publishing), which tells the whimsical tale about a band of earthworms that learn to solve problems, work as a team and achieve success all while enjoying a grand adventure.

Ferdie and Squirmy are a little out of sorts. For worms, their skin is dried up, and they are feeling lazy. It has been awhile since they have seen rain, and their bodies are suffering. The two friends think they should look for a fresh mud hole. Their pal, Birdie, agrees. But the worms have little sense of direction, and GPS is not exactly available for the trio of would-be adventurers. Lucinda the butterfly hears their plight and offers to help them on their quest. This little band of earthworms follows the magical butterfly on an interesting, and often-times challenging, journey to find a new home.

"The book contains ageless themes of adventure, friendship and overcoming challenges with persistence and teamwork," Ryan says. "The illustrations are unique, it's a story about earthworms, and it's a first effort by both the author and the illustrator."

The story of "Lucinda's Wormy Journey" reminds readers that they can overcome obstacles and reach their goals through persistence, asking for help when needed and working together as a team.
