Trudi Carter Debuts with CAN DRAGONS AND FROGS BE FRIENDS?

On February 17th, Reuters examined the impact of bullying on youth and the results are more disturbing than many may expect. According to a recent study, "the negative physical and mental effects tied to bullying among children and teens may accumulate throughout the years." Perhaps more troubling, the same study revealed that teens who had been bullied in the past and those currently being bullied tended to have a lower quality of life, compared to those who were bullied less or not at all. One woman, teacher Trudi Carter, now suggests society use a fresh approach with children to act as the remedy to bullying - creative writing that focuses on solving problems with compassion and kindness.

Aiming to spark children's imagination and caring for others, Carter teaches readers how to use creativity to understand and solve problems in her new children's book, Can Dragons and Frogs Be Friends?

Using her experience as a creative writing teacher and mentor, Carter demonstrates how to identify creative topics: from producing ideas, to enriching sentences, and planning the story. Sharing this writing process, used with tutoring and classroom students, Carter provides children with writing methods that establish and resolve story problems creatively.

Throughout the book, Carter uses an improbable assortment of animals to exemplify how miscommunication, social differences and history are generally the root of personal problems. Using vivid language to pique interest in writing, Carter illustrates how sworn enemies learn to value each other in a book that is perfect for all ages.

"A single event can be the catalyst that changes the past and the future," Carter said. "A bully doesn't have to stay a bully forever."

Trudi Carter is a first-time author. Today she lives in Atlanta, Georgia, and has two grown children. She lived her childhood in New York on Long Island and attended college upstate. While at college, she wrote the first version of Can Dragons and Frogs Be Friends?
