BIRMINGHAM, Ala.

Author Tommye Hamilton Wright sets the scene of her new World War II novel, "You Are Cordially Invited to War" (published by iUniverse), on the home front, highlighting the wars fought off the battlefield.

It is 1942, and the United States is deeply involved in WWII. On the home front, however, other wars are brewing. Kay Ann Franklin juggles caring for her terminally-ill mother, five-year-old twins, one with polio and the other with chicken pox, and a one-year-old daughter. With no end to the global war in sight, Kay Ann fears she may be losing her own war.

One day, a black teenaged girl named Say knocks on Kay Ann's backdoor, offering to help. Soon the tides of war change, and Kay finds both strength and comfort in Say. So grateful, Kay Ann tries to help send Say to college, but her efforts towards racial equality are stalled by a brutal attack and malicious opposition from friends, neighbors and even Say's preacher.

In this inspiring tale, Kay Ann and a group of women warriors go to battle for Say, helping her believe in herself once and for all. Through the novel, Wright illustrates not only the personal battles, but also the hardships and challenges, even the humor, of life on the WWII home front.
