Anyone who has visited the island paradise of Key West, Florida has likely noted the magnificent, four-story, red brick Custom House Museum. The crown jewel centerpiece of the wildly popular travel destination is a national landmark, award-wining museum and the headquarters for the Key West Art & Historical Society, one of Florida's oldest not-for-profits.

The Society is currently one of six South Florida organizations competing for a prestigious $20,000 Knight Arts Challenge People's Choice Award. They are the sole 2014 Florida Keys-based award nominee. The public may cast a vote for The Society by submitting a single text message: VOTE4 to 22333.

If awarded, The Society will use the monies to help fund their education outreach initiative to bring the arts and history of the region into classrooms inspiring the next generation of Ernest Hemingway's, Tennessee Williams', Mario Sanchez's and Suzie dePoo's, just a few of the key famous figures from the island's richly diverse past.

The Knight Arts Challenge People's Choice Award, presented in partnership with the Miami New Times, invests in artistic excellence by funding arts projects that engage Knight resident communities in collective cultural experiences. Each People's Choice Award nominee began as one of 75 finalists in the 2014 Knight Arts Challenge, a competition that rewards the best and most innovative ideas for the arts.

"At the end of the day, we do what we do to create a better future and a better community," says Executive Director Michael Gieda. "It is our goal to make this history and culture accessible to all."

Those with a finger and cell phone are asked to vote and help bolster the future of arts and history by submitting a single Text Message: VOTE4 to 22333. The deadline for voting is 11:59pm, Monday, November 17.
