Temper tantrums happen. So do fits, tears and a range of other undesirable emotions. Children's author and retired teacher, Margaret Hooton believes that parents can use these as outbursts as a chance to expand their child's stream of consciousness.

"Emotions such as anger, jealously, fear and greed are common in everyone," Hooton said. "By teaching our children to be accepting of their feelings we can make them more self aware."

Her newest children's book, "The Basket of Fruit" is the story of a girl living happily with her grandfather. She asks how evil came into the world and he sends her off to find the answer by her own experiences. Although the girl makes negative decisions along the way, her grandfather shows her unconditional love when she comes back.

The book is intended help children develop a higher level of consciousness and ignite their imagination.

"Children receive ideas on many levels of consciousness," Hooton said. "In this story lies information that will ignite their imagination and connect with their knowledge of themselves. These ideas will lie in their minds and ripen over time."
