On Boxing Day 2012, author Sue Parker heard the nearby volunteer fire brigade alarm sound off. The sound changed her life forever, as the volunteers rushed to save her son, Rowan, who was mortally injured near their home in a quad bike accident.

Parker's new book, "Chasing Shadows: A Mother's Attempt to Process Her Grief" (published by Balboa Press AU), chronicles her journey through grief after her unexpected loss, detailing the initial confusion, pain and heartbreak and the long road that led to healing.

After her son's death, Parker felt she had two choices: despair or help her family make sense and understand the tragedy. To help herself move forward, she practiced self-healing exercises and searched for answers to some of life's biggest questions, such as the meaning of life and death and what awaits souls in the afterlife.

Both heartfelt and honest, "Chasing Shadows" extends a comforting hand to other parents who have had to arrange funerals for their children. Parker hopes her journey will remind other grieving parents that there is hope.

"This book is a very personal search for the meaning of life, death and grief," Parker writes, "but it aims to give hope to those who similarly have lost a loved one - or to those who are about to pass over through illness. Death isn't as final as it may appear to be."
